The New Year inspires goals of renewal and change in many women. For some this means a long list of small changes but for others it may mean the huge task of quitting smoking, shedding a few dozen pounds or pursuing a new hobby more vigorously. It isn’t too uncommon for women to have a general resolution to start the New Year differently than any other year. If you desire to start the year fresh by improving your health through diet and fitness, then it is important to create a plan and incorporate small changes.1.Make a New Years Resolution List- This may be a tradition, but if you really try to achieve your goals on this list it WILL work. Take as much time as you need to write goals you really want to accomplish in the New Year. If you want, you can categorize them in to short term goals and long term goals. Some good ones might be getting more exercise and eating better. REALLY try to accomplish these! /201001/93984Record numbers of men and women are on the lookout for secret affairs, as experts claim January 4th is the worst day of the year for infidelity. With the stress of Christmas taking its toll on many relationships, IllicitEncounters.com has reported a surge of activity. Yesterday 994 unhappily married people decided to look for a new love via the UK#39;s leading dating site - more than double the average traffic ; and the company predicts even more will sign up today. It had recruited 650 new members by lunchtime and usage is set to rise by 250 percent. 250%。With the majority of the British public back to work and some feeling fed up after a long and hectic festive break, experts says the trend is unsurprising. Cheating consultant Rosie Freeman-Jones said: ;Christmas and New Year are times when couples spend an intensive period of time with each other and their families.;外遇顾问罗西;弗里曼-琼斯说:;在圣诞和新年,情侣二人以及他们和家人都集中度过了一段时间。;;This can be quite claustrophobic and sometimes leads to a #39;cabin fever#39; situation where both parties feel irritated with each other and underlying problems are exasperated.;;这可能非常幽闭,有时还会导致lsquo;幽居病rsquo;,情侣二人互相都很恼怒,潜在的问题被激化了。;;The 4th of January is typically one of the first days back to work and back to freedom ; and spouses take this opportunity to explore all the things they couldn#39;t under the watchful eye of their partner.;;1月4日是节后第一个工作日,人们也重获自由,伴侣们会利用这个机会做一些在另一半的监督下不能做的事。;She adds that social networking websites have made it easier for people to start discreet affairs. But the memories from that day left her so ashamed that she went on a diet and then convinced her 36-year-old husband to tie the knot again. "Every girl wants to look like a princess on their wedding day. But I looked hideous in those photos," she told the Sunday Mirror. "If you compare the pictures it's like Pete has married somebody else. Everyone kept asking what Pete had done with Zoe! Finally I had the wedding I'd dreamed about." Mrs Davies is only 5ft 4ins and met her future husband Pete while he worked as a fitter and she worked in a bakery. At the time she was 10st but by their first wedding in 2000 her poor diet meant she had ballooned and doubled her weight and dress size. While at her heaviest, she typically skipped breakfast before eating bacon sandwiches, crisps and chocolate for lunch, a Chinese takeaway for dinner and snacking on sweets, more chocolate and crisps. But after realizing she had to change her unhealthy ways, she ditched her high fat diet in favor of cereal, fresh fruit and salads and started exercising. Her efforts paid off and she dropped to 11 stone and dress size 12. Her new slimmer figure filled her with confidence so the mother-of-two asked Pete to marry her again so she could have a wedding album she could be proud of. He agreed and the couple tied the knot again in front of 100 friends and loved-ones in August. a picture of Jiang QinqinStudy: Magazine ads of thin models make women overeatResearch now shows a supermodel figure or the "ideal" thin woman image reflected in magazine advertisements trigger young women, obsessed with their own body image, to eat more. Interestingly, those with a more balanced healthy body image tend to eat less. The study done in Australia is important in bringing out the point that advertising not only affects the way we think but also our patterns of eating behavior. Fiona Monro, graduate student at the University of New South Wales, explains the results of the study published in the November edition of the journal, Eating Behaviors: "We would expect people who value the way they look would be reminded by viewing the image and not eat." "We're not sure why we found the reverse but possibly because of stress...[women obsessed with their appearance] see the idealized image and think about their own body so turn to food," she adds. Monro says, "They might think 'what's the point, I'm never going to look like that, I may as well eat; or the image makes them think they're thinner than they are so they eat more." Sixty-eight female university students took part in the study: two hours after their last meal, they were asked to prioritize the importance of physical attractiveness, health and physical fitness to find out whether they give importance to the way their body looks. Monro and her team were studying the phenomenon of "self-objectification," or the way people perceive themselves and their bodies as an object to be valued for outward show as opposed to intrinsic worth. (AHN) /200903/65394The Earth is a mysterious place. There is much going on around us every day that goes unexplained. For all our advanced technology and scientific understanding, there are ten perplexing events for which we have no answers. The Body/Mind Connection Medical science is only beginning to understand the ways in which the mind influences the body. The placebo effect, for example, demonstrates that people can at times cause a relief in medical symptoms or suffering by believing the cures to be effective--whether they actually are or not. Using processes only poorly understood, the body's ability to heal itself is far more amazing than anything modern medicine could create. 9. Psychic powers and ESP Psychic powers and extra-sensory perception (ESP) rank among the top ten unexplained phenomena if for no other reason than that belief in them is so widesp. Many people believe that intuition is a form of psychic power, a way of accessing arcane or special knowledge about the world or the future. Researchers have tested people who claim to have psychic powers, though the results under controlled scientific conditions have so far been negative or ambiguous. Some have argued that psychic powers cannot be tested, or for some reason diminish in the presence of skeptics or scientists. If this is true, science will never be able to prove or disprove the existence of psychic powers. 8. Near-Death Experiences and Life After Death People who were once near death have sometimes reported various mystical experiences (such as going into a tunnel and emerging in a light, being reunited with loved ones, a sense of peace, etc.) that may suggest an existence beyond the grave. While such experiences are profound, no one has returned with proof or verifiable information from "beyond the grave." Skeptics suggest that the experiences are explainable as natural and predictable hallucinations of a traumatized brain, yet there is no way to know with certainty what causes near-death experiences, or if they truly are visions of "the other side." There is no doubt that UFOs (Unidentified Flying Objects) exist - many people see things in the skies that they cannot identify, ranging from aircraft to meteors. Whether or not any of those objects and lights are alien spacecraft is another matter entirely; given the fantastic distances and effort involved in just getting to Earth from across the universe, such a scenario seems unlikely. Still, while careful investigation has revealed known causes for most sighting reports, some UFO incidents will always remain unexplained.UFO(不明飞行物)的存在是毫无疑问的,因为有许多人在天上看到过自己无法识别的东西,从飞行器到流星应有尽有。 Deja vu is a French phrase meaning 'aly seen,' referring to the distinct, puzzling, and mysterious feeling of having experienced a specific set of circumstances before. A woman might walk into a building, for example, in a foreign country she'd never visited, and sense that the setting is eerily and intimately familiar. Some attribute deja vu to psychic experiences or unbidden glimpses of previous lives. As with intuition, research into ,human psychology can offer more naturalistic explanations, but ultimately the cause and nature of the phenomenon itself remains a mystery. 5. Ghosts 鬼魂From the Shakespeare play "MacBeth" to the N show "Medium," spirits of the dead have long made an appearance in our culture and folklore. Many people have reported seeing apparitions of both shadowy strangers and departed loved ones. Though definitive proof for the existence of ghosts remains elusive, sincere eyewitnesses continue to report seeing, photographing, and even communicating with ghosts. Ghost investigators hope to one day prove that the dead can contact the living, providing a final answer to the mystery. People disappear for various reasons. Most are runaways, some succumb to accident, a few are abducted or killed, but most are eventually found. Not so with the truly mysterious disappearances. From the crew of the Marie Celeste to Jimmy Hoffa, Amelia Earhart, and Natalee Holloway, some people seem to have vanished without a trace. When missing persons are found, it is always through police work, confession, or accident never by 'psychic detectives'). But when the evidence is lacking and leads are lost, even police and forensic science can't always solve the crime. 3. Intuition 直觉Whether we call it gut feelings, a "sixth sense", or something else, we have all experienced intuition at one time or another. Of course, gut feelings are often wrong (how many times during aircraft turbulence have you been sure your plane was going down?), but they do seem to be right much of the time. Psychologists note that people subconsciously pick up information about the world around us, leading us to seemingly sense or know information without knowing exactly how or why we know it. But cases of intuition are difficult to prove or study, and psychology may only be part of the answer. 2. Bigfoot 大脚For decades, large, hairy, manlike beasts called Bigfoot have occasionally been reported by eyewitnesses across America. Despite the thousands of Bigfoot that must exist for a breeding population, not a single body has been found. Not one has been killed by a hunter, struck dead by a speeding car, or even died of natural causes. In the absence of hard evidence like teeth or bones, support comes down to eyewitness sightings and ambiguous photos and films. Since it is logically impossible to prove a universal negative, science will never be able to prove that creatures like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness monster do not exist, and it is possible that these mysterious beasts lurk far from prying eyes. 1. The Taos Hum 陶斯之声Some residents and visitors in the small city of Taos, New Mexico, have for years been annoyed and puzzled by a mysterious and faint low-frequency hum in the desert air. Oddly, only about 2 percent of Taos residents report hearing the sound. Some believe it is caused by unusual acoustics; others suspect mass hysteria or some secret, sinister purpose. Whether described as a whir, hum, or buzz and whether psychological, natural, or supernatural no one has yet been able to locate the sound's origin. /200908/81325

"Putpockets" give a little extra cash Visitors to London always have to be on the look out for pickpockets, but now there's another, more positive phenomenon on the loose -- putpockets. Aware that people are suffering in the economic crisis, 20 former pickpockets have turned over a new leaf and are now trawling London's tourist sites slipping money back into unsuspecting pockets. Anything from 5 pounds () to 20 pound notes is being surreptitiously deposited in unguarded pockets or open handbags in Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden and other busy spots. The initiative, which runs until the end of August in London before being rolled out countrywide, is being funded by a broadbrand provider, which says it wants to brighten up people's lives in unusual ways. "It feels good to give something back for a change -- and Britons certainly need it in the current economic climate," said Chris Fitch, a former pickpocket who now heads TalkTalk's putpocketing initiative. "Every time I put money back in someone's pocket, I feel less guilty about the fact I spent many years taking it out." London's police have been briefed about the plan, which will see at least 100,000 pounds given away. /200908/82278
