  • Jessica: About three years ago I went and I lived in Madrid for a year and I stayed with a host family, and there was three boys: one was my age, one was two years younger, and one was, at the time he 9 years old, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I stayed in a city outside of Madrid, its called Alcola de Hernades, and its about a 30 minute train ride from Madrid, from downtown Madrid. In, I also went to school Monday to Friday. I went to a Spanish International language school, and so I went to class with Brazilians, French, German, Turkish, and so that was really good for my Spanish just because I was able to practice without having the ability to speak English, so my Spanish greatly improved, just from my friends, having to communicate to properly with them. My host family like I said was really wonderful. I would take the little one, Javi, my little brother, out a lot, we would go on what we called our citas, which is dates, so I would ask him where he wanted to go for our date and he would tell me, you know, like, in Madrid he wanted to see, one time we went to a wax museum, so he was able to vist the city which he did not have a lot of opportunity to do before that, so with the help of Javi and his host Mom, I was able to like thoroughly enjoy my Spanish experience and improve my Spanish as well.

久而久之, 人们开始用go by the board来泛指彻底抛弃什么了。 例句-1:The New York Times report says that several traditions went by the board when Gore picked Lieberman as his vice-presidential running mate. One was the tradition of matching a liberal with a conservative: both men are close to the political center. 从这段话可见go by the board是抛弃的意思。 例句-2:In 1913 the old law went by the board. That was when the 17th amendment changed the Constitution to provide that senators be elected directly by the people. 它是:fall into line。这篇文章这样报导说:例句-3:After the choice was made, the two men got together to make sure that Mr. Lieberman would fall into line with positions that Mr. Gore takes on campaign issues. The soldiers fall into line. Lieberman used to support the proposal of school vouchers, which Mr. Gore opposes. However, after the meeting with Mr. Gore, Mr. Lieberman showed he would fall into line with Mr. Gore on some campaign issues. Now, he indicated he didnt think school vouchers would work. /201409/324469
  • A wet blanket-----令人扫兴的人或者事throw a wet blanket on/over----某人令人扫兴大家好,欢迎来到小强英语。 You know, a wet blanket on a fire will deaden if not extinguish the fire. Sb. is a wet blanket. 。 The teenagers dont invite Bob to their parties because he is a wet blanket. 如果说某件事令人扫兴,通常会用throw a wet blanket on/over。 The government says that corporate earnings werent as good as expected the last quarter. That’ll throw a wet blanket over plans of investors to get into the stock market. /201411/342598
